We Are in Autumn

Well, believe it or not, we are in Autumn! It will soon be time to get out the long sleeves again. It doesn't seem like it right now though with the temps in the high 80's as I write this. But to tell the truth, if I was a turkey, I would be getting a one way ticket to South America! His day of reckoning is soon to be here. These seasons go by so quickly, it seems only a short time ago that we were enjoying the blooming dogwood trees. Now we are witnessing the Poplar leaves falling. Another year will soon come to an end. Which reminds me, our lives are like these years- they will soon come to an end too! The trees are getting ready to shed their leaves in order to allow for new leaves next s

We are very happy to report our attendance for the Homecoming Celebration was a huge success! Thank you to all who did so many things to make that success a reality. Many people cooked, bought, brought, told others, prayed, and did many other things in order to secure a great turn out. Thanks again to every one of you who did whatever you did to make the gathering possible. I want to remind you again to be aware of our Wednesday evening services. It is a busy time for everyone, but if you are missing the mid-week services, you are missing out on a time to have your questions about the Bible answered. Our next big event is the Harvest Walk. Please pray that the Lord will expand our horizons a

A Sneak Peek

This Sunday is our annual homecoming. It is mostly a time to visit, acquaint, eat a great meal, enjoy the company of those you may not have seen for a while, and take an airplane ride! NO Just kidding about the plane ride. But we will gather together to hear the preaching of the word of God, hear some gospel music. I'm going to give you a sneak peek at our message for Sunday. The message will be about Jesus presentation of the gospel, but there is an aside there which never is discussed very much among modern-day Christians. It is the topic of the Year of Jubilee. In the ancient Jewish culture, (during the time of Jesus on the earth, and before), there was a year periodically, (every 50 year

How Exciting!

This week we will enjoy our Homecoming here at church! Historically, the churches in Russell County have made a big deal out of what we now call "Homecoming". It is no wonder either! This all got started with the "graveyard working." Back in those days churches usually couldn't afford to have someone hired to mow and care for the cemetery, so once per year all the people of the church and surrounding communities would gather together about this time of year to care for the graveyard. Soon, they decided all that hard work should be rewarded with a good meal. Thus, the meal! Then, as the event grew ever increasingly popular, some enterprising folk decided that they would also set up booths to

Fear Not

Why do we fear so many things? Oh yes, we all fear something; it isn't just you! The Bible says in at least 80 places that we should fear not! And God said in Is 43:1, "Don't fear for I have redeemed you, I have called you by my name; you are mine!" God actually commands us not to fear or worry. The enemy uses our fears to intimidate us and to cause us to worry which is the opposite of faith. Satan would destroy not only your life but your soul as well if he could, but God won't allow it. So why do we still fear? I think we don't fear that God will fail us, as much as we feel we will fail God. Fear causes us to buckle and settle for less than God's best. It will cause us to disobey after di

When Your Faith Dwindles

He replied, "You of little faith, Why are you so afraid?" Then He got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm. Matthew 8:26 I wonder if Jesus in His humanity wondered why the disciples just didn't get it. In fact I wonder why I don't get it sometimes. Sometimes it seems like an everyday occurrence. There Jesus was, all along, throughout the storm, and yet I fail to recognize Him. I know, at least in my heart, that God was still God, that the Holy Spirit is still me Comforter, and that Jesus was at the right hand of the Father saying, "Dad, I know what he's going through. Let's help him one more time." But in the midst of a tempest, a storm, a trial, it often seems

A Homecoming

Our annual home coming is the 22nd day of this month. Seems like no time has passed since it was here last year! This year will be similar to the years before with a good meal, live entertainment by the Higginbothams, plus an antique car show and motorcycle show. To tell the truth, many of those antique cars were built during my lifetime. In fact, I remember when the brand new 1955 Chevy's came out! My dad had one. It was blue with a 283 cubic inch engine with three deuces! If you don't know what that is you'll have to look it up on the internet. I would hate to spoil your since of adventure by telling you! We look forward as Christians to the other great homecoming! It will be the one in th
