How to Gain More by Giving it Away

The Bible says in Proverbs 11:24-25 that we will gain more as Christians if we give away some of what we have! How can it be? Let's take a moment to read the verses. (24) "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. (25) A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed."

These two verses present a paradox. A paradox a seemingly absurd or contradictory statement that when investigated, turns out to be true. But according to the Bible we become richer by being generous. The world says to hold on to as much as possible, but God blesses those who give freely of their time, possessions, and energy. When we give, God supplies us with more so that we can give more.

In addition, giving helps us to gain a right perspective on our possessions. We realize they were never ours to begin with, but they were given to us by God to help others. What then, do we gain by giving? Freedom from enslavement to our possessions, the joy of helping others, and God's approval.

But not everyone has a bunch of money to even meet their minimum monthly expenses, so how can we justify giving away what we don't seem to have? This is where faith come in. Do we really believe God will keep His promises to us, or not? You may not have money, but you can give what ever you have laying around that you don't need to someone who is in worse shape than you. Look around you. Do you see anyone who is in need? Can you help them? That gift you give will be a door opener for God to open the gates of heaven and pour out a mighty blessing on you.

"Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it,"

I say in all seriousness, take some time, maybe a few minutes, maybe a few hours, or even a few days, and search out a way you can help someone in need. Remember, God doesn't work on your time table. He sometimes take longer than you wanted, but your gift will to the church or the needy will be an obedience to God who again said, "Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that there will not be room enough to store it,"

Are you willing to trust God that much? It takes faith, but God is the One who gives you the faith if you will ask Him for it. Take time to consider what you have read. It can either be a blessing to you or not. You choose. What will it be for you?
