You Have Not Because You Ask Not

Pastor Adrian Rogers who was the pastor of Bellevue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN. told a story of when he was first beginning his ministry in Florida just after graduating from seminary.

He said he went to preach at a very small church in Florida. When the service was over, a man came around and told him the church didn't have enough money to pay him anything, but he said, "Wait right here for a minute." In a couple of minutes, the man came back with two big burlap bags full of oranges. Bro. Rogers didn't know what to do with so many oranges, so when he got back to his apartment, he just threw them into the closet.

The next day, Rogers was looking out of his window when he saw a young boy scale his fence and climb up into his orange tree to steal an orange. After the little boy had his orange and left, Rogers was thinking about the orange. It was a "sour" orange, not good for eating, but pretty to look at anyway.

Rogers thought about that little boy and how disappointed he must have been when he tasted the sour orange. If only the little boy would have come to the door and asked for an orange, Bro. Rogers would have given him not one, but several tasty oranges to take home with him, out of the abundance of the two burlap bags!

Too many times we Christians don't have because we don't ask! Now that doesn't mean God is obligated to give us anything we ask Him for, but it does mean that it what we ask is within His will, He will grant the request. When you have need, remember the Scripture James 4:2-3. "You do not have because you do not ask God.3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures."

Pray to the Lord of the harvest and ask Him to help you to walk within His will so that when you ask for something, because you are walking within His will, He may be free to grant your request.
