The Trouble With Love

The trouble with earthly love, that is love or pretended love, is whether we realize it or not, it is based on conditions. "I will love you if you will......" (fill in the blank). Even those for whom we care so much sometimes abandon their promised love and it hurts us.

In fact, it is hard to comprehend with our earthly way of thinking, a love that would actually be without conditions. It seems to always come to a trade-off. "I will do this if you will do that." Though it may not have started that way, it sometimes ends up with a less than enjoyable situation. Thus, we become apprehensive of loving. We fear abandonment so it's sometimes seems easier to just stay at arms length from others, so we can eliminate the possibility of being hurt.

We are so blessed that we have a Creator who loves without conditions. Like a new mother's love for her newborn, His love for us is without measure and doesn't have to be renewed. It is eternal. And do you want to know the strangest thing? Even when we don't love Him, He loves us anyway- and again, without conditions.

The words of the song go, "Oh how He loves you and me, Oh how He loves you and me! He gave HIs life, what more could He give? Oh how He loves you, Oh how He loves me, Oh how He loves you and me!"

That says it all. He gave His life, what more could He give? Oh how He loves you and me! With our Lord in mind, can we begin to emulate Jesus love for others? With the help of His Holy Spirit, I believe we can begin today!
