What Tragedy Looks Like- Then Peace

The following article appeared in part in Bible Study Insider, (Vol. 17) Lifeway Study, December 2020. The article is by Rev. Tony Evans, founder of The Urban Alternative, Dallas, TX.

"The past three years have been the most challenging I've ever faced. Our family has experienced a disheartening amount of loss. I lost my brother, sister, brother-in-law, niece, father, and my precious wife all within the span of roughly two years. I know what it is like not to have the energy to walk out the door in the morning. But I also know firsthand, the power of peace.

When the walls of loss and uncertainty caved in around me, I discovered what it meant to say the name of Jesus and be filled with His peace. It's that peace and presence that got me through the days I could not get through in my own strength.

But peace only comes through choosing to align your heart, mind, and actions under the rule of God in obedience to Him. Peace grows out of the choices we make based on faith. It is nurtured and cultivated in a spirit of total dependence upon God and required surrender to His will. God gives us there principles in Proverbs 3:5-6 that will help us live in the favor of His peace.

  1. Trust in the Lord with all your heart.

  2. Lean not on your own understanding.

  3. In all your ways acknowledge Him.

How are you trusting God right now in the very moment for all your needs?
