It Seems Strange to Me...

Today, Yvonne and I attended the viewing of one of our church friends from several years ago. In those days, we were leaders of a fantastic youth group which kept us busy dealing with all kinds of events etc. Since then, we have seen many of them at their funerals, and just today we spoke at the funeral home with one of our youth group about his grand children and what they are doing. It really seems strange that one half of a century has gone by and now we are old(er). But still, we seem to think young, (or at least we want to be able to do so), but when I look in the mirror, I understand why some of the people at my 50th class reunion didn't know who I was. I reminds me of the old song by Ricky Nelson's song "Garden Party." One line in the song said, "When I got to garden party, everyone knew my name, no one recognized me, I didn't look the same"!

But one thing I know from my studies of the Bible; we aren't going anywhere until God is ready for us to go. It is God who made my life and it is He who will one day call me home. Until that day, I can rest in Him because He is in control.

You don't need to worry about today or tomorrow. Many of us worry about our loved ones, what will happen to them if we were to die suddenly. Jesus said, "25 “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life[e]?

28 “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you—you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own, (Matthew 6:25-34).

So don't worry, trust God. Jesus also assured us, "“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.4 You know the way to the place where I am going,” (John 14:1-4). It is Okay. It really is! Just give it to God right now, and He will take care of if in His timing for you.
