How hard it is to go backward! In my teen days, roller skating was actually popular! I was never good at skating but I did relish the feeling of freedom it engendered. But one thing I was loathe to do- skate backward! I don't remember even trying. I had enough problems maintaining my balance going forward!
But as life goes along we usually experience at least some form of success. That leads to a certain satisfaction. When we have attained this level, it is really hard to "go backward"! We view loss of a home, or a job, as going back to our point of origin, and many of us have trouble with that. We can't abide starting over.
That is where adaptability must come in. People can live in the tropics or they can live in the Arctic Circle. It's all a matter of adaptability! If we want, we can adapt to practically anything- it really is, at least most of the time, in your mind.
The great Apostle Paul stated, 10 "I rejoiced greatly in the Lord that at last you renewed your concern for me. Indeed, you were concerned, but you had no opportunity to show it. 11 I am not saying this because I am in need, for I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. 12 I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. 13 I can do all this through him who gives me strength," (Philippians 4:10-14).
Paul, by God's grace, was able to adapt to most any set of circumstances. We can do the same! It's all in whether or not we will let ourselves be adaptable. Why not be like Paul. Begin to adjust your mind to your current circumstances today!
