How is Your Spiritual Battery?

For several days the second had on my watch has been acting strangely. Normally, it ticks off the seconds as expected- after all, it is a "second hand". But the last few days, it has been moving in four second intervals instead of one second intervals. What could cause it to do that? Actually, the battery is getting weak. When it weakens, the watch is designed to save energy by not moving the hand as much as normal. I wonder if there are other entities that do the same thing.

Do you keep a close eye on your spiritual battery? When we are on a "spiritual high" which usually happens on some spiritually joyous occasion, our spiritual battery is fully charged and we feel the power of the Lord and we seem to be able to get to church and sometimes take part. But what happens when our battery is low?

When our spiritual battery is low, maybe we should have been designed with a blinking red light or some other way to make us instantly aware that we need to come into the presence of the Lord for a recharge. But as with the watch batter, we may not be aware until the battery is already low. But when it happens, we demonstrate the classic signs- no energy for prayer, no energy for going to any service other than basic Sunday morning, no energy for extra curriculum such as visiting the sick, etc. We crawl instead of walking; we walk instead of running; we run instead of flying.

Wherever you are right now, whatever you are doing, reach our to God in your thoughts and ask Him to recharge your spiritual battery and that He would give you the joy of servanthood again. ...."but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint," (Isaiah 40:31).
