Are We Patriotic Enough?

Not long ago I watched a mini-series about the life and times of George Washington. Though it is a fact that President Washington was most certainly patriotic, I wonder if there was more to it than that. He stepped up to the plate in a desperate time for our country. Those days were a time in which the wrong leadership would have ended in a disaster for our fledgling democracy.

In the book of Ester we read of a time for the Hebrews when their future hung in the balance. Mordecai advised Ester to risk her life in order to save the Hebrews.

"When Esther’s words were reported to Mordecai, 13 he sent back this answer: “Do not think that because you are in the king’s house you alone of all the Jews will escape. 14 For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?” (Ester 4:12-14, NIV).

As Mordecai said, "Who knows but that you have come ...for such a time as this?"

Perhaps God has put you where you are right now to serve Him in some great way. Though we don't know, we must be like Ester and depend on God for our protection and provision during a time of vast change in our culture. We must do our part to protect our freedom today. Who knows but that God set you here and now for such a time as this. Will you do your part?
