Sunday is Father's Day
Well, it's here again; Father's Day! I've been looking for something to post on the sign out front. There are many witty saying one could put there. Most of them are meant to evoke a smile or a chuckle, but there are some sign sayings which point out a truth. I like the latter. Truth is what we are all about here at Russell Springs Christian Church. Jesus said, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me," (John 14:6). It's all about Jesus.
Do when you think about Jesus, Do you think of Him, do you think of Him as your heavenly Father, or do you think of Him as the Son, or only as your Savior? Jesus said, "I and the Father are one." This was a bold statement- a statement his audience found quite audacious- and it reveals much about who Jesus is.
Five interesting things: 1. Jesus claimed to be one with God in the sense of being equal with Him. 2. His audience understood that He was claiming to be equal with God. 3.Jesus referred to Himself as God's own Son and to God as His Father, (John 10:36-37). 4. Jesus claimed His Father sent Him. "the one whom the Father set apart as His very own and sent into the world, (John 10:36). 5, Jesus only said that the Jews didn't believe Him, He never said the misunderstood His claim to be God. John notes, "Even though you do not believe me, believe the works, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father." Jesus was not correcting a misunderstanding. They understood what He said perfectly. He was correcting their willful rejection of Him.
So who is He? He is all of these! Happy Father's Day Father!
