We Remember
This weekend is a special time in our country. Memorial Day is the time when we remember those of our country who have given their lives in service to protect our freedom, and so we will do that Sunday morning during our worship service. We sincerely invite you to be here with us for this special day.
This week we are doing something different. We have already passed out paper hearts to many of our congregation and Sunday morning we will pass more hearts to those who want them that they may write the names of those loved ones they want to memorialize. When we get all the hearts back in we will put them in a box, then on Monday morning at 10 a.m. we will plant a dogwood tree in memory of those loved ones. But before we put the tree in the ground, we will put the box with all the hearts with the names of our loved ones inscribed on them underneath the roots of the tree that the roots may use the hearts as food and the names on the hearts symbolically become part of the tree. All this was conceived by Bro. Gary Welker. Finally, a memorial stone will be erected under the tree commemorating the event.
How would you like to be remembered? Will you be remembered as an honest person who always loves and seeks the best for everyone around you? Will anyone remember you at all?
Unfortunately many people concentrate their lives on trying to do things that will make others remember them. Our Lord said, in Isaiah 49: 16, "See, I have engraved you on the palm of my hands." Be sure your name is written there, then it really doesn't matter who else remembers you.
