Anniversary

I may have started at RSCC on Superbowl Sunday in 2016, but today marks my official two-year anniversary at Russell Springs Christian Church. The past two years have given me some of the greatest joys and deepest sorrows of my life, but I wouldn't have it any other way. I fully believe that God brought me to our church at just the right time for all of us. You needed me, and I needed you. I may have had a bit of a rocky start -- I'm not sure any of us were completely without confusion my first couple of months here -- but I'm proud of what God has accomplished through us since then. And so while some of you still give me fits, let me say that I love each and every one of you, and I am both honored and humbled at the privilege of being your minister.

I'm celebrating my anniversary at the church today, but we mark anniversaries for many other things. This year will be my ten-year college reunion -- that's an anniversary of sorts. Everyone does something for their wedding anniversary (as long as the husband remembers in time). Presidents look back over their _____ years in office to see what they've done and how the country has changed. It's important for us to be able to look back and see where we've come from, where we're going, and to thank God for the blessings He bestowed upon us that brought us to where we are today. Anniversaries are a great way to do that.

No matter what anniversary you celebrate, you'll be looking back on good times and bad times. Yet we know that God never leaves or forsakes us (Hebrews 13:5), and we know that He works together all things for the good of those who love Him (Romans 8:28). Praise God for being with you each and every day of each and every year. So for whatever you're celebrating today, happy anniversary!
