This Is My Story, This Is Our Song

No, the title of today's post isn't a typo.

This Sunday will be our last Sunday in testimony month, and we've had some very brave people share their stories with us. All of them have my deep gratitude for telling us what God has done in their lives, for we're all better for having heard about God's love for them.

They've shared individual stories, but no person is an island. Their stories are a voice in the symphony, a verse of the song that is Russell Springs Christian Church -- and the Church Universal. Each of us who is called by the name of Christ can add a verse to that song. We can all add stories of God's grace, mercy, and love. We can sing a song of repentance and redemption.

And that's our song. The song of salvation is a song which no one but Christians can sing. Revelation 14:3 tells us, "And they [the 144,000] sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and before the elders. No one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed from the earth." These 144,000 stand for all the saints, all of God's holy people who had accepted the salvation Jesus purchased for them on the cross. The Church will sing a new song even the angels cannot sing: the song of salvation by grace through faith made possible by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. And that's the most beautiful song in human history.

It's also a song we can sing in part right now. By sharing testimonies, we add a voice to a heavenly chorus, a verse to the eternal song. It's a song of salvation, of pain, of wonder, of praise, and of love.
