Breakfast of Champions

I have a love/hate relationship with breakfast: I love it, and it hates me. There are a few health problems which prevent me from being able to tolerate food soon after waking, so since I prefer to taste my food only once, I typically give breakfast a miss (or at least postpone it a couple of hours). Most of my breakfast food comes at supper time, which also means I don't get around to eating a lot of cereal. Long story short, I'm just not one to eat my Wheaties.

There's physical food (like Wheaties), but there's also spiritual food. As Deuteronomy 3:8 (as quoted by Christ) teaches us, "Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of the LORD." Yes, we need bread -- actual food to go in our bellies. But we also need to be fed from the word of God. We must spend time reading and studying our Bibles (even those parts we don't particularly enjoy). By knowing the word of God, we come to know the Word of God, Jesus Christ, God Himself. After all, "faith comes through hearing, and hearing through the word of God" (Romans 10:17).

The easiest way I've found to stay in the word is to simply schedule time to do it. Make it a routine, a set time designated for reading your Bible. What better time for one of those moments than at the very beginning of each day? Starting your day with Scripture can be the best way to approach the next twenty-four hours. (And make sure you take time to pray, too!)

A steady diet of Scripture will do wonders for your spiritual health. The true breakfast of champions turns out to be the Holy Bible.
