Can I Do That?

The title of today's post has nothing to do with what's moral or permissible. Instead it's the offer of the volunteer. This is the person who sees something that needs done and either immediately handles it or asks, "Can I do that? If it needs done, could I handle it?" Me, I like volunteers. A church -- any church -- can't function without volunteers. Paid staff can only do so much, after all; try as we might, we just can't be everywhere doing everything at once.

I am blessed to say RSCC has the finest group of volunteers I've ever seen. When something needs done, no matter what it is, someone offers to help. When someone wants to try something new, you all jump in and make it happen -- even if it doesn't work out so well. Every member of our Teams, everyone who cleans on a work day, everyone who greets people, hands out bulletins, runs the projector and sound board, takes pictures, makes food, prepares Communion -- all of you are worth your weight in gold. Thank you so much for all you do.

If you feel like you don't get much out of your church, how much do you have invested? Do you volunteer? Do you work? Are you actively involved in the ministry of the church in some fashion? If not, I encourage you to find a way to volunteer. Approach a church leader and ask what you can do to help. I guarantee the more you take ownership of the work of the church, the more you'll get out of it.

"Can I do that?" Absolutely!
