It Would be Impossible!

Here is something to think about this Palm Sunday weekend.

We know Jesus was raised from the dead in order to lead the way for us to eternal life. But have you thought about "why" He arose from the dead? There is more than one reason.

We know the Scripture teaches "Wherefore as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin, and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned," (Rom 5:12). So in order for a man to die, he must sin. And since all men sin, all must die. The curse of the law is death and that is what Jesus came to save us from- the "second death". Now, if Jesus who was without sin had to die; why did He do it?

Well, He didn't die because He was cursed by the law. He had committed no sin to be cursed for, but instead he became sin for us that He might die in our place to make us the "righteousness of God, in Him," (2 Cor 5:21). Now here is the interesting part- Jesus couldn't not raise from the dead! Remember that Jesus had committed no sin to be cursed to the death for. Death only comes to those who sin!

Jesus had committed no sin for which He was worthy of death, so He was worthy of eternal life! "For as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. But each in turn: Christ the firstfruits; then, when He comes, those who belong to Him,"

(1 Cor: 22-23).

Since sinless Jesus took our sins upon Himself that we would no longer be guilty of those sins, but would be made the "righteousness of God in Him", (2 Cor 5:21), He paid for our sins on the cross where He left them. He, being free from sin Himself, had the power, being again, free from sin, to overcome death in resurrection to eternal life! Because He was free from sin and could overcome death in eternal life, we who trust in Him will also overcome death through Him and will be resurrected by Him to eternal life also. Without any sin it would be impossible for Him to remain dead! Death is the result of sin, and Jesus was and is free from sin. So life eternal is found only in Jesus!

That is the "good news" of the gospel!
