Let Bygones be Bygones

Here we are on the last day of a short month! It seems that it has been only a few days since February began, but we are now at the end. Did anything of significance happen in your life during the month?

Though we may not remember consciously, Every event that happened during February, and every other month, is now permanently etched in our memories. Good or bad, they are all there. All it will take is a little reminder, and we can bring those experiences back to mind, whether they are good or bad.

Do you find it easier to remember something bad than something good? For some reason, if someone does something to upset us in some way, we tend to be able to remember that more vividly than those kind "hellos" we might have gotten at the grocery store, or at church during that last service. Why is that? Why do we latch onto pain?

Most of us long for the day when there will be no more pain. Christian, it's coming your way. In Revelation 21:4 we read, "‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’[a]or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” That's good news! If you are like me, we don't like to hurt people or to be hurt by people. But remember, it isn't their fault altogether when they hurt you. It is a seed planted by the devil, our very real enemy as long as we are on the earth.

So when someone inadvertently or even purposely hurts us, we should instantly remember that though we regret the pain, the source of hurt is not us; it's our enemy, the devil. With other people then, let's let bygones be bygones!
