One of Those Days

Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. As Elvis once sang, "nothin' is right from mornin' till night," and nothing you can do will make that day go any better. Sometimes you have entire weeks made of days like that, and it gets a bit discouraging. One favorite book character, when asked, "Not your day, is it?" replied, "Not my lifetime . . . not my lifetime." And some days (and weeks), it can certainly feel that way.

When those days come, remember two things. First, keep in mind your record for making it through the bad days currently stands at 100%. If you're still above ground, you've made it through everything life has thrown at you. Yes, you've suffered pain and loss, and yes, no day has ever been truly perfect, but you're still here. Still alive, still breathing, still making it through. A perfect record of surviving anything and everything.

Second, and more importantly, please remember one of the greatest verses of the Bible: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31b). Yes, people and circumstances will oppose us, but they can never defeat God. God alone has supreme, unlimited power, and if we belong to Him, that power is on our side. Nothing can get victory over us eternally, for nothing can remove us from the arms of a loving heavenly Father (Rom. 8:37-39).

Eventually we'll all have another "one of those days." (After all, if it can happen to Elvis, it can happen to anyone.) But take hope in God's love for His children. You'll make it through that day, and the next bad day, and the one after that, just like you have all the others before it. And remember: a time is coming when we will enter a land of eternal day -- a good, holy, perfect eternal day.
