From the new Testament and other early Christian writings, we learn that the particular duties of those ordained as deacons included assisting at the Lord's table and making certain that the needs of the poor and infirm were adequately met. The qualifications for deacons , outlined in 1 Tim.3: 8-13, are seen to be especially fitting in light of these duties.
